Creative Connections

In this episode of Creative Connections, we explore one of the most familiar yet often overlooked features of the British countryside: the hedgerow.
What is a hedgerow? Why were they planted? How are they managed? And what plants, wildlife, traditions and folklore can be found within them?
Join us as we take a closer look at these living boundaries, from hawthorn and blackthorn to hazel, elder and sweet chestnut, and discover why hedgerows remain such an important part of our landscape today.

After watching Clarkson’s Farm and hearing Jeremy Clarkson talk about the lack of birds on his farm, we downloaded the Merlin Bird ID app and took it on a walk through the West Sussex countryside.
This episode is not about expert birdwatching. It's about going outside, listening more closely, enjoying nature, and learning the names of a few of the birds around us — whether in the countryside, a garden, a park, or a street with a few trees.
A Creative Connections conversation about birdsong, attention, nature, and how a simple walk can become more interesting when you know a little more about what you are hearing.

Chanctonbury Ring is one of the most atmospheric landmarks on the Sussex skyline.
